Our Classes
Greek School uses a combined age model in order to accommodate the skill level of our students. We have 5 combined-age groups. Students may stay in each group from one to two years depending on their progress and learning needs.
Accepting students ages 5 to 13 yrs.
Classes meet Mondays 5:30-7:30PM.


Group Alpha
Beginning skills (5-7 years): At the most elementary level, Group Alpha is designed to introduce the youngest of learners to the primary basics of the Greek language. We introduce the alphabet, basic reading skills of sight words, colors, greetings, numbers and simple phrases. Students will also be learning some short prayers, such as the Trisagion. This is accomplished by a combined approach of traditional and interactive teaching using songs, crafts, board/computer games, videos etc.
Prerequisites: No prior knowledge required.
Duration: 1-2 years.
Group Beta
Basic skills (7-10 years): This group builds on the skills acquired in Group Alpha and continues to reinforce accurate letter, diphthong and double consonant recognition; students will start learning to differentiate simple nouns, adjectives and verbs; simple phrases, common conversational greetings and the Lord’s Prayer will also be included in the curriculum. This will be accomplished by using books, songs, crafts,videos and board/ computer games.
Prerequisites: Mastery of the alphabet, numbers and simple phrases.
Duration: 1-2 years



Group Gamma
Intermediate beginner (10-12 years): The focus of this group is to build a stronger, more expanded vocabulary; to understand the main differences in the parts of a sentence and to start applying their skills in everyday interactions. Group Gamma will be introduced to some of the Hymnology of our Church and learn common Hymns that are heard on most Sundays and Feastdays.
Prerequisites: Very good foundational knowledge- mastery of the alphabet, adequate reading skills.
Duration: 1-2 years
Group Delta
Intermediate (12-13 years): is designed for students who are familiar with the very basics of speaking, reading, and writing. Our goal at this level is for the students to learn how to speak, read and write basic Greek, as well as understand and apply simple grammar rules. Students will learn to recite the Creed in Greek as well as additional hymns.
Prerequisites: Full mastery of the alphabet and fluent reading skills; beginning reading comprehension skills; beginning conversational skills.
Duration: 1-2 years.



Graduating Class
Graduation Group (13 and up): This is the group where students start working toward graduation; students will refine their speaking, reading, and writing skills. We introduce longer texts and elements of Greek history and mythology. In addition, we emphasize translation from English to Greek and vice versa. Our goal in these levels is for the students to master simple grammatical rules, spelling, and conversation.
Prerequisites: Mastery of reading and writing, good overall understanding of grammar; good reading comprehension skills; basic conversational skills.
Duration: 1 year
